Mugen PhilosophiesTable of contents![]() PhilosophiesDepending on your outlook of how the creations made for Mugen should be treated, in regards to reuse of existing work in new creations, there are many different philosophies. Because people always feel that they have a suppiorror outlook, these philosophies have been a major source of pain in the Mugen Community. Users have left the community, gone private, argued, deleted entire forums and databases, and have even fought one another in real life. If you are new to the community, it would be good to remember that none of these philosophies have been endorsed by Elecbyte and that the best advise is to let your own conscience be your guide. Open SourceThis is the philosophical belief that everything made for M.U.G.E.N should be considered open source and you can do what ever you want with the codes and sprites of a creation, no credit is needed to be given to the original author. This philosophy does not take into account that it can take months to code a decent character or the time and effort that it takes to rip or create sprites. When it comes to sprites, many open source followers claim that because the sprites are often ripped from copyrighted games, that they should not need to give credit. Many people in the community find this philosophy rude and disrespectful. CreditThis is the philosophical belief that it is ok to use any part of an existing M.U.G.E.N as long as you give a credit to the original authors in your read-me file and on the release. This philosophy is the happy middle ground that has become accepted by most forums. PermissionThis is the philosophical belief that no one is allowed to use any part of an existing M.U.G.E.N creation in another's creation, unless the original author gave permission to use their works.
