CharStatus

Character Status

A character's status is a word or phrase the creator, any community member, leecher, or flamer uses to describe what they feel about how the character looks/works. Most common statuses are used to describe badly coded characters; the most commonly used terms are cheap, broken, sucky, and crap. There are also others, such as Alpha, Beta, and Leaked.

Cheap

Cheap is used to refer to characters that are impossible to beat and unfairly balanced. For instance, the Omni-Psych versions of Jam and Justice are equipped with AIs that abuse the computer's natural advantages in timing, and their moves are severely overpowered in terms of damage.

Also see Broken, below.

Broken

Broken is similar to cheap, but it's used for characters that are unfairly balanced because of poor coding and/or glitches, rather then a poor sense of balance. Example: Cheap would be having five One-Hit-KO supers, while Broken would be things such as infinites. Although the two terms are interchangeable, broken characters are primarily known for terrible clsn2s (hitboxes) which cause infinite priority.

Sucky

Sucky characters are characters that are just universally unpopular. These characters may be cheap, glitchy, or have badly formatted sprites (the worst have all three plus god-knows-what-else). Please note that this term is highly subjective.

Alpha

A term used to describe a character that is in development; at the minimum, the SFF file is completed, and is assumed to use a template for development.

Beta

Same as Alpha, but the character is further along in its development and is fully playable, but not release ready.

Leaked

A term used to describe an incomplete character that was "released" by someone other than the creator.
